John Surette

Producer and RCTV Member
I have been involved with public access for about 6 years videotaping church services for the Unitarian Univeralist Church of Reading. This year I finally became an official member of RCTV. Last May, I signed out a camera and a switcher. Together with our church camera, we videotaped a revue show.

With the help of Phil and Matt, I learned how to capture and edit the video. After a lot of patience, I ended up with a finished video with an added introduction and trailer. That show will be aired on channel 9, and the cast can have their own DVD’s.

At the end of August, I had some free time so I signed out a camera for a week. I wanted to film something in the local area. I went over to Horn Pond in Woburn just to practice using the camera. A week later and seven hours of recording, I had enough material to produce an hour-long show. Some of the people I met while filming asked me to distribute the show to the local towns surrounding Woburn. Wow! Now I feel like a big time TV producer.

RCTV has become a new hobby for me. It is a very rewarding to do camera work at an event or produce your own show and have it aired on local TV. This year has been an eye opener. Without an active membership, you would only see a bulletin board on the local channels. So stay active, and ask a friend to join.
